This is a loan for Minnesota residents. Interest
payments are required while the student is in school. The interest rate is
variable and a co-signer is required. The minimum loan processed is $500.
SELF loans cannot exceed the student's cost of attendance or the
following annual loan limits:
- Undergraduate: $7,500
- Graduate:
$9,000
SELF Loan
Application and Detailed Program Information
All students are required to submit the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) the first year they apply for the
SELF Loan. The FAFSA is not required for subsequent years.
However, families are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA to determine eligibility
for federal financial aid, including federal student loans, prior to considering
alternative loan options like the SELF loan.
If the student will not be submitting a FAFSA, the student must complete the
SELF Loan FAFSA Refusal Addendum and
SELF Loan Application (the link to the
application is above).

Signing this form
electronically will submit the form to the Student Financial Aid Office.
If you select the SAVE and PRINT option, you must print the form, sign it, and
mail or fax it to the Student Financial Aid Office for processing. Either
option will offer you the opportunity to print a copy for your records.
The
first time you log in, you will be required to make a number of profile changes:

- Username – the user must select a username:
- • At least eight characters in length
- • Must begin with a letter
- • Must contain at least one digit
- Password – the user must select a new password:
- • Must be at least eight characters in length
- • Cannot contain the username
- • Must contain characters from three of the four following groups:
- o Lower case letters
- o Upper case letters
- o Numbers
- o Alphanumeric characters or symbols
- Security question & answer – the user must choose a security question
and provide an
- answer to that question.
