Student Financial Aid > Summer Financial Aid

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Students must meet the eligibility requirements listed under the section titled Apply for Aid. The minimum (at least half-time) credit hour requirement for financial aid for the Summer Session at UND is 6 credits.

Summer financial aid awards are based on the number of credits students are enrolled in for the Summer Session. If a student’s enrollment status changes, it could affect financial aid eligibility and/or delay the receipt of financial aid funds. STUDENTS MUST INFORM THE STUDENT FINANCIAL AID OFFICE SHOULD THEIR ENROLLMENT STATUS CHANGE.

Students must be in compliance with the University's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy at the end of Spring Semester 2009 to receive financial aid for Summer Session 2009.

PLEASE NOTE:

Spring Semester compliance with the SAP policy cannot be determined until after Summer financial aid disbursement begins.  Therefore, if a student is determined to not be in compliance with SAP, they may be billed to repay any financial aid received for the Summer.

Students selected for verification or required to document independent status, must complete that process before financial aid eligibility can be determined.

For students with an unresolved financial aid HOLD, no funds will be available nor loan applications processed until the problem has been resolved.

Courses dropped before their start date may result in the repayment of financial aid received or the amount of aid awarded for the summer session.

FINANCIAL AID AVAILABILITY

Pell Grant, SEOG, Perkins and Nursing Loan

Pell Grants are available for students who 1) were eligible for a Pell Grant during 2008-2009, BUT 2) were not enrolled full-time both Fall and Spring semesters.

You may be eligible for a summer Pell Grant award based on your 2009-10 FAFSA.  You must have completed the 2009-10 FAFSA and meet all Pell Grant eligibility criteria.  If you are eligible, this summer award will be disbursed AFTER July 1, 2009 and will not affect your Pell Grant eligibility for the 2009-10 academic year.  Please note that you may not receive a summer Pell Grant for remaining 2008-09 eligibility and 2009-10 eligibility - your summer Pell Grant will be based on the higher amount.

Limited Nursing Loan and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG) may be available for the summer term. Students will be automatically considered for the SEOG  and Nursing Loan when the Financial Aid Application Supplement for Summer Session 2009 is submitted.

SEOG and Nursing Loan funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis subject to the availability of funds.

Disbursement of Pell Grant, SEOG, and Nursing Loan will begin May 28, 2009.

There are NO Perkins Loan funds available for Summer 2009!

Employment

The amount of the Federal Work Study award is an earnings limit for the period of May 16, 2009 through August 15, 2009. This award does not guarantee a job, but rather indicates eligibility to seek employment. The ability to obtain a job is determined by initiative in seeking interviews, willingness to work, job skills, available time, etc.

On May 13, 2009, summer jobs will be posted at www.und.edu/employment. Students enrolled in less than 6 credit hours are no longer eligible to continue employment under the FWS program.

Federal Work Study Jobs

On May 13, 2009, summer jobs will be posted at www.und.edu/employment. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 credit hours in the summer session to be eligible for institutional employment.

Institutional Jobs

Stafford Loan

If the maximum Stafford Loan per grade level was received during the Academic Year, Students will not be eligible for any additional Stafford Loans during the Summer. If the student’s grade level changes, they may be eligible for an additional Stafford loan at that time by notifying the Student Financial Aid Office of this change.

A loan period of 12 weeks will be used for all loans. Disbursement for the Summer Session begins May 28, 2009.

Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, PLUS Loans, SELF Loans or other alternative educational loans may also be available to assist you with your educational costs.

Students borrowing for the first time must complete Entrance Loan Counseling prior to the first disbursement of their student loan(s).

Student borrowers whose last term at UND will be the 2009 Summer Session must complete Exit Loan Counseling prior to the end of the Summer Session.

APPLICATION PROCESS

A Financial Aid Application Supplement for Summer Session 2009 and a 2008-2009 FAFSA are required for financial aid eligibility to be determined for the 2009 summer term.

Students who have not yet completed the 2008-2009 FAFSA, should do so and send it to the processing center for processing prior to June 30, 2009.

Students unable to complete the 2008-2009 FAFSA prior to June 30, 2009 AND students who are eligible for a Pell Grant, should complete the 2009-2010 FAFSA.
